 A media room provides a variety of uses for the family.  While the home theater room is designed to replicate a cinema experience a media room is more flexible and practical.  It is a multi-purpose space.  It is usually outfitted with a large flat screen television, in-wall and/or in-ceiling 5.1 or 7.1 surround system, amplification, control systems (custom remote control or touch panel that with one touch of a button controls all of your systems), structured wiring for audio and video and complete concealment of wires.  Friends will want to come over to watch the big game, families will want to hang out on comfy sofas while watching movie or streaming music and everyone will want to have parties at your house.  Your neighbors will be envious of your rock star social status.
